Applewild School is an independent day and boarding school with campuses in Fitchburg (18 months-Grade 9) and Devens, Massachusetts (Preschool-Grade 4).
Applewild believes in its students and in their future. We adopt teaching and learning strategies that will equip our students to enter a world that is rapidly changing. At Applewild, we aren’t interested in teaching our students what to think, but to think critically for themselves and to be problem-solvers, discerners, leaders, and changemakers in our global society.
Metacognition and project based learning is at the heart of our day-to-day academics as is our commitment to student agency and choice. Students can choose from classes in design, makerspace, art, 3-D game design, improv, performing arts and band/choral. Clubs integrated into the school day are driven by student interest whether it be a slime club, a buffer sword club, or a debate club! English as a second language is also offered.
Our junior boarding 5 or 7 day program offers an exceptional academic and social environment for students in Grades 5 to 9.
Our 6th to 9th grade program features field work, math and writing labs, and an interdisciplinary approach to learning. We have a personalized secondary school placement program and 90% of our students get into their first or second choice school.
We offer learning support including programming for students with language-based learning differences and ADHD. Our executive functioning class supports students in middle school who need to brush up on their organization.
Some students benefit from the more comprehensive support of Foundations at Applewild, a language-based program for students in Grades 2 to 9 with class sizes of no more than 8 students and 1:1 Orton-Gillingham tutorials.
Our Ski Hawks Academy alpine slalom and GS race program for students in Grades 5 to 9 will kick off for the 2023-2024 school year. With day and boarding options, athletes will ski in the morning and take classes in the afternoon. The program includes daily skiing at Wachusett Mountain, a specialized sports psychology class and pre-season training.
