Established in 1900, Camp Hale is a core program of United South End Settlements, a non-profit whose mission is to harness the power of our diverse community to disrupt the cycle of poverty for children and their families.
Each summer, over 200 youth ages 6 to 15 leave Boston and head to lakeside cabins on Squam Lake in New Hampshire, in the heart of the White Mountains. Residential camping allows the campers to engage in a long list of activities including canoeing, swimming, archery, hiking, fishing, ecology, camping skills, as well as just enjoying the mountain air – all experiences that many youth would not otherwise be able to access. Ultimately, we seek to ensure that the confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills they develop through these activities stay with them well into the future and benefit them in other endeavors such as school, work, sports, conflict resolution, and interpersonal relationships.
