Camp Akeela

Camp Akeela is a co-ed, overnight camp in Vermont and Wisconsin. Within a well-rounded and traditional program we emphasize the social growth of our campers, many of whom have been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (or, more recently, high functioning autism spectrum disorder) or a nonverbal learning disability (NLD). Akeela is an intentional community that values and celebrates each child and counselor. Campers make life-long friends, develop self-confidence, achieve independence, and leave camp with lasting memories filled with fun and spirit. They thrive in the predictability and structure of the camp program, while also enjoying ample opportunity for choice and specialization. Both of our sites feature extensive arts programs, including visual arts, woodworking, drama and cooking. Athletics, both team and individual, focuses on skill development, confidence and collaboration. Vermont's location is 400 wooded acres on a serene lake with outdoor heated pool. Vermont aquatics activities include swimming, fishing, boating, sailing, SUP and more. Extensive outdoor adventure program includes animal farm & gardening, high & low ropes courses, weekly hikes and optional horseback riding. Akeela Wisconsin is hosted by Lawrence University, with state-of-the-art dorms and facilities. In addition to arts, athletics and swimming, WI's program includes optional outdoor adventure and technology instruction.
