Travel & Taste: Borneo's Big 5

Come along as we explore the outstanding terrestrial wilderness of Malaysian Borneo including the Big 5, the pygmy elephant, orangutan, proboscis monkey, crocodiles, & rhinoceros hornbill. Often overlooked by nature travelers, Borneo’s forests harbor exceptionally high levels of diversity and endemism, including many rare and unique species. In only a few days it is possible to see proboscis monkeys, orangutans, hornbills, forest elephants, and pit vipers. During the talk we will visit Sepilok, home to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Sun Bear Conservation Center, then relocate to the jungle and the winding Kinabatangan River, and ending in Danum Valley Conservation Area—43,800 hectares of protected lowland rainforest that is home to an astonishing variety of plants and wildlife, including more than 340 species of birds, 124 species of mammals, 72 species of reptiles, 56 species of amphibians, and 200 species of plants per hectare. Registration recommended by 5pm the day prior. Location-themed dessert and Lecture. Dessert at 7pm, Lecture at 7:30pm. Online registration available.
