A Special Lecture Event: Tales of a Mass Audubon Artist-in-Residence

In recent years, Nature Artist Barry Van Dusen has participated in four Artist-in-Residence programs around New England. In this talk, Barry will share stories and paintings from his previous residencies, and describe his latest and most ambitious residency project yet. During a 3 year residency, Barry has visited all of Mass Audubon’s 57 Wildlife Sanctuaries, producing drawings and paintings inspired by each location. You’ll hear about his adventures exploring Mass Audubon properties around the state, and learn more about the approach Barry uses to meet the demands and challenges of working on location. He’ll also show how field sketches and studies are used in the studio for larger, more complex works. The show wraps up with a fun Sanctuary Quiz - Can you can identify Mass Audubon properties from Barry’s paintings? A selection of the original watercolors Barry produced for the project will also be on display. Pre-registration recommended. Online registration available.
