On Saturday, March 19, 2016, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), is celebrating Nowruz 2016—The Persian New Year Festival. Coinciding with the first signs of spring, this annual Museum event gives visitors the opportunity to celebrate and learn about Persian culture through an array of programming and the MFA’s encyclopedic collection. The term Nowruz, meaning "new day," has been celebrated for centuries throughout the Persian Empire and continues to be celebrated around the world.

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy musical performances from world-renowned and Grammy-nominated virtuoso on the kamancheh (Persian spiked fiddle) Kayhan Kaylor; view a traditional Haft Seen display, a key element of Nowruz celebrations; and join interactive dance workshops exploring authentic folk dances by the Iranian Dance Artists. Sheez Ensemble will present Persian coquet poetry through classical and folk Persian songs with a touch of jazz influence, and Aftab Dance Group, made up of students from Boston-area universities, will perform a selection of classical and modern Persian dance styles.

Visitors also have the opportunity to explore the MFA’s collection on an array of tours and talks; visit Taste Café to purchase Persian-inspired menu items; and participate in a variety of family-friendly art-making activities.

All events are free with Museum admission. Hide
